The Rift tears through the Drift
A chain reaction runs through the Drift. Ships across the known universe can no longer drift-warp, and many Prismani lose their connection to the Drift, halting long-distance travel.
The broad strokes of the known galaxy.

A chain reaction runs through the Drift. Ships across the known universe can no longer drift-warp, and many Prismani lose their connection to the Drift, halting long-distance travel.
The first drift travel without Prismani in ten years: slow, expensive, and prone to fluctuations that can destabilise space-time.
The Prismani who can still reach the Drift form a guild of navigators.
Along the new lane, drift engines reach Prismani speeds without fluctuations. The Prismani Hyperlane Association comes to manage the hyperlanes.

A raid on a Vesk research station brings the Empire to the edge of war with Insmother.
The known galaxy counts its years from the Rift, on 0PR.0101: the day a chain reaction ran through the Drift and stopped drift-warp everywhere. Many Prismani lost their connection to the Drift that day, and long-distance space travel all but stopped for close to two centuries.
Mechanical drift engines returned ten years later, slow and unstable. Around 135PR the first hyperlane let them match Prismani speeds. Hyperlanes are mostly managed by the Prismani Hyperlane Association.
To this day, Prismani drift-warp is faster and better than mechanical drift engines, but Prismani navigators are rare and most are unionised through the Prismani Space Navigator Guild.
In 250PR a raid on a Vesk research station brought the Vesk Empire and the Duchy of Insmother to the brink of war over Monthax; see The Hollowfrost Affair.
Only the Rift itself (0PR.0101) has an exact date; the early post-Rift dates are approximate.
